Dawn Redwood
Metasequoia glyoptostroboides
Age: 11-15 years
This group planting, or Yose-ue (forest style), is maintained through a clip and grow method. It is simpler to take care of as there is not a lot of wire needed to obtain the desired shape. This species is native to Lichuan county in Hubei province China. These species have been classified as “critically endangered” in the wild due to human encroachment. Dawn redwoods are also known as the Chinese water fir and are similar to our native bald cypress.
