Korean Hornbeam
Carpinus turczaninovii
Age: appx. 80 years
This imported tree was originally worked on by New England bonsai artist, Nick Lenz. Nick is known for a natural-driven approach to styling. His book, Bonsai from the Wild, is extremely sought after. In 2019 his work was honored in an exhibition at the National Arboretum in Washington DC. His signature stamp was the shape of an aardvark somewhere in the tree. Will Baddeley (UK) carved this plant and put in an aardvark head shape at the front, as a tribute to Nick Lenz. Korean hornbeams are flowering plants native to central China, the Korean Peninsula, and central and southern Japan.
